Chlorine Chronicle (Archive)NMSC Apr/98 NewsletterWrinkly Fingers and Toes?If you swim a lot (DUH!) and have often wondered why the skin on your fingers gets so bumpy after a long session in the pool, ....... wonder no further. The following is an excerpt from the book The Secret Family twenty-four hours inside the mysterious world of our minds and bodies by David Bodanis (author of The Secret House) Simon & Schuster, 1997 ISBN 0-684-81019-0 (page 122) "...skin-tip wrinkles are assuming lunar proportions... Fingers and toes are the spots that get especially wrinkly because they have the thickest skin. The swollen skin can't spread sideways, and instead is forced upward. Thinner skin on the arms and legs, is too taut to absorb much water and so doesn't pucker up." There you go. Any other questions? |
